This study presents an analysis of the division of family roles and functions performed by fathers and mothers on bringing their school-aged children. A sample of 100 families of an "intermediate" social class level resident in the city of Porto Alegre with school-aged children was investigated by this research. The technique used was a questionnaire elaborated by the group Dinâmica das Relacoes Familiares. The results showed that, in general, there is a good level of agreement between fathers and mothers (40%), with respect to the tasks in up bringing children. In addition, the Cluster's analysis allowed to identify two groups of families according to their main tasks in terms of children education: The Group 1 (49%) is characterized by the mother as the main responsible for children's education, while the Group 2 (51%) is characterized by an equal division of tasks between mothers and fathers.
