Business success depends on understanding how external forces such as globalization, demographics, and sustainability impact a company’s competitive strategy and position.2 Success also depends on exploiting powerful and reasonably priced digital infrastructures that include mobile technologies, especially smartphones; cloud computing, especially softwareas-a-service for such applications as artificial intelligence and machine learning; wired and wireless networks; and the Internet of things. In fact, digital technology platforms have become the foundation for an increasing share of economic growth. Digital technologies enable the development of new or enhanced products and services delivered to customers more efficiently. These technologies also enable fundamentally new ways to organize business.3 Digital transformation is the reinvention of the company— its vision and strategy, organizational structure, processes, capabilities, and culture. Such transformations not only change companies, but also markets and entire industries.
