In last few decades, Layered Double Hydroxides (LDHs) based materials have taken much attention of the researchers due to their significant advancements in enabling efficient oxygen evolution. Having exceptional layered structure, sole electronic structure and high specific surface area, it resulted in showing good OER catalytic performance. The catalytic performances of LDHs are largely governed by their composition, morphology, intercalated ions which can be done by the processes of exfoliation and different synthetic methods. Although, LDH materials find enormous advantages in energy related application, still there are some inherent drawbacks in the OER process that to needs to developed for long term usage. These drawbacks in the internal properties of LDHs are attributed to the low electrical conductivity and structure collapse particularly during exfoliation process that makes the OER kinetics to be hectic. To overcome these drawbacks, researchers have developed many strategies recently and those are i) nano structuring; ii) addition of cation; iii) anion exchange; iv) synthesis of materials with conductive support and v) vacancy creation. Hence, this review, ultimately focuses on how to overcome the issues faced with LDHs extensively in terms of synthetic, exfoliation method and various strategies developed in recent years in the field of electrocatalytic water oxygen evolution reaction.
