Abstract Incorporation of biomolecules in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to form Biomolecules-MOFs composites has attracted great attention as an emerging class of hybrid materials. A wide range of Biomolecules-MOFs composites have been designed and synthesized, which combine the excellent physical and chemical properties of MOFs (e.g. high porosity, tunable pore size) with the versatile functionalities of biomolecules, and applied in various fields including biocatalysis, sensing, separation, imaging and drug delivery. This review thoroughly summarized the state of the art of strategies used to incorporate biomolecules with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), and emphasized on the remarkable advances of the applications of Biomolecules-MOFs composites, including the current challenges and potential directions in the future.
