Production of titanium foams using magnesium powders as spacer particles has been investigated. Titanium foams having porosities in the range 45–70% with an average pore size of around 525 μm have been manufactured. The resultant yield strength and elastic moduli values were observed to vary in the range 15–116 MPa and 0.42–8.8 GPa, respectively.

- Next-generation biomedical implants using additive manufacturing of complex, cellular and functional mesh arrays (2010, result): “A (2010) complements prior data for porous titanium (Esen & Bor 2007; Erk et al. 2008) as extended or extrapolated beyond 50 per cent porosity, but deviating from the Gibson & Ashby (1997) model and a similar model of Zhao et al. (1989).”
- New Developments of Ti-Based Alloys for Biomedical Applications (2014, methodology): “As the porosity of porous titanium and its alloys decreases, the strength and stiffness increase [48,51,182,195], and the yielding region in stress-strain curve starts to disappear [195].”
