We present the Extended Hipparcos Compilation (XHIP), a database of all stars in the New Reduction of the Hipparcos Catalog extensively cross-referenced with data from a broad survey of presently available sources. The resulting collection uniquely assigns 116 096 spectral classifications, 46 392 radial velocities, and 18 549 homogenized iron abundances [Fe/H] to Hipparcos stars. Stellar classifications from SIMBAD, indications of multiplicity from CCDM or WDS, stellar ages from the Geneva-Copenhagen Survey III, supplemental photometry from 2MASS and SIMBAD, and identifications of exoplanet host stars are also included. Parameters for solar encounters and Galactic orbits are calculated for a kinematically complete subset. Kinetic bias is found to be minimal. Our compilation is available through the Centre de Données astronomiques de Strasbourg as Catalog V/137A.

- WIDE COMPANIONS TO HIPPARCOS STARS WITHIN 67 pc OF THE SUN (2012, methodology): “We evaluate their masses by the same method as for the catalog targets usingK-band magnitudes from XHIP (Anderson & Francis 2012); for a small subset without 2MASS photometry,V magnitudes were used instead.”
- Fundamental Parameters of 87 Stars from the Navy Precision Optical Interferometer (2017, background): “…are from SIMBAD, V magnitudes are from Mermilliod (1991), parallaxes are from van Leeuwen (2007), and [Fe/H] are from the following sources: (1) Anderson & Francis (2012); (2) no [Fe/H] was available so 0.00 was used; (3) Reffert et al. - Close encounters of the stellar kind (2014, methodology): “I also use a fourth catalogue, xhip (Anderson & Francis 2012, CDS catalogue V/137D/XHIP), which contains both astrometry and radial velocities (for some stars) so no cross-matching was necessary.”
- BAYESIAN ANALYSIS TO IDENTIFY NEW STAR CANDIDATES IN NEARBY YOUNG STELLAR KINEMATIC GROUPS (2012, background): “Since ABDMG lacks massive (A0V dwarf) known members, a sample of 33 early-type Pleiades members (with Hipparcos parallax) were used to reproduce the trend of the color sequence from A0V to M9V for the ABDMG.”
