Abstract. We study the corings whose category of right comodules has a finitely generated projective generator. In order to extricate the structure of these corings, we introduce the notion of comatrix coring. Comatrix corings allow as well to give a complete description of all cosemisimple corings.

- Galois theory for comatrix corings: Descent theory, Morita theory, Frobenius and separability properties (2004, background): “In [ 23 ], El Kaoutit and G´omez Torrecillas look at a more general version of the descent problem: in the classical situation, we take a ring morphism B ! A, and try to descend modules defined over A to modules defined over B. This theory can be generalized to the situation where A and B are connec”
