Correlations among new CP violating effects in {delta}F=2 observables

We point out that the observed $CP$ violation in ${B}_{d}\ensuremath{-}{\overline{B}}_{d}$ mixing, taking into account the measured ratio $\ensuremath{\Delta}{M}_{d}/\ensuremath{\Delta}{M}_{s}$, the recently decreased lattice value of the nonperturbative parameter ${\stackrel{^}{B}}_{K}$ and an additional effective suppression factor ${\ensuremath{\kappa}}_{ϵ}\ensuremath{\simeq}0.92$ in ${ϵ}_{K}$ neglected so far in most analyses, may be insufficient to describe the measured value of ${ϵ}_{K}$ within the standard model (SM), thus hinting at new $CP$ violating contributions to the $K\ensuremath{-}\overline{K}$ and/or ${B}_{d}\ensuremath{-}{\overline{B}}_{d}$ systems. Furthermore, assuming that $\ensuremath{\Delta}{M}_{d}/\ensuremath{\Delta}{M}_{s}$ is SM-like, the signs and the magnitudes of new-physics effects in ${ϵ}_{K}$ and in the $CP$ asymmetries ${S}_{\ensuremath{\psi}{K}_{s}}$ and ${S}_{\ensuremath{\psi}\ensuremath{\phi}}$ may turn out to be correlated. For example, in a scenario with new $CP$ phases in ${B}_{d}$ and ${B}_{s}$ mixings being approximately equal and negative, a common new phase $\ensuremath{\approx}\ensuremath{-}5\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}$ could remove the tension between ${ϵ}_{K}$ and ${S}_{\ensuremath{\psi}{K}_{s}}$ present in the SM and simultaneously accommodate, at least partly, the recent claim of ${S}_{\ensuremath{\psi}\ensuremath{\phi}}$ being much larger than the SM expectation. We emphasize the importance of precise determinations of ${V}_{cb}$, ${\stackrel{^}{B}}_{K}$, ${F}_{K}$, and ${\ensuremath{\xi}}_{s}$, to which the parameter ${ϵ}_{K}$ and its correlation with the $CP$ violation in the ${B}_{d}\ensuremath{-}{\overline{B}}_{d}$ system are very sensitive.
