The ALICE Collaboration has studied J/ψ production in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV at the LHC through its muon pair decay. The polar and azimuthal angle distributions of the decay muons were measured, and results on the J/ψ polarization parameters λθ and λϕ were obtained. The study was performed in the kinematic region 2.5

- J/ψ suppression at forward rapidity in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV (2016, methodology): “The input pT and y distributions were obtained from the measured ones via an iterative procedure, and unpolarised J/ψ production was assumed [42].”
- Production of J/ψ and $ \varUpsilon $ mesons in pp collisions at $ \sqrt{s}=8 $ TeV (2013, unknown): “The J/ψ polarisation has been measured at √ s = 7 TeV by the LHCb [39] and ALICE [40] collaborations, in a kinematic range similar to that used in this analysis, and the Υ polarisation has been measured by CMS [41] at large pT and central rapidity.”
- Measurement of the $J/\psi$ pair production cross-section in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13 \,{\mathrm{TeV}}$ (2016, background): “The polarisation of the J/ψ mesons is assumed to be zero since there is as yet no knowledge of the polarisation of J/ψ pairs, and all the LHC analyses indicate a small polarisation for the quarkonia [29–33].”
