This study investigates the risk of having a first child in Italy for the three largest groups of foreigners in Italy - Albanians, Moroccans and Romanians. The study confirms that strong differences in the fertility pattern remain even when we control for migratory and demographic factors. This demonstrates that foreigners do not always have high fertility and that the contribution of migrant fertility on the native fertility level is complex. This study is also unique as we use a longitudinal approach on Italian cross-sectional administrative data on births and migration by implementing record linkage procedures.
