On operators preserving James’ orthogonality

Abstract We characterise isometries and coisometries in B ( H ) in terms of James’ orthogonality. As a consequence we obtain a characterisation of surjective linear or conjugate linear mappings ϕ : B ( H ) → B ( H ) that preserve James’ orthogonality in both directions.
