This study was designed to assess the factorial validity and the internal consistency of the “Cuestionario para la Evaluacion del Sindrome de Quemarse por el trabajo” (CESQT). It is justified the necessity to elaborate a Spanish instrument to evaluate burnout because weakness of the others instruments. The theoretical model to elaborate the CESQT was developed by Gil-Monte(1), and proposes that it is possible to identify two types in the process of burnout. One progresses with feelings of guilt, and the other one with absence of feelings of guilt. It is hypothesized that the four factor structure will prove to fit the data. Methods. The sample for this study consisted of 338 Spanish professionals employees in institutions for mentally retarded people. The questionnaire consists of twenty items. Items can be answered on a five-point Likert-scale of frequency, ranging from 0 (Never) to 4 (Every day). The instrument is made up of four subscales: Enthusiasm (5 items), Psychological Exhaustion (4 items), Indolence (6 items), y Guilt (5 items). The models were examined using LISREL 8. Results. The measures of goodness of fit for the model were adequate. All subscales shown values Cronbach’ alpha higher than .70. Conclusion. The results show that the CESQT offers factorial validity and its scales present internal consistency to evaluate burnout in Spanish professionals.
